Hi Everyone,

I am proud to announce the release of Patch 1.07, the patch EA promised to Gamereplays but never delivered. I would like it to go on record that although 1.06 is advertised as 'official', it was actually designed mostly by Gamereplays. Further history around the 1.06 development can be found here. 1.07 is simply a fine, fine tune of 'our' 1.06 patch. Had EA continued to support BFME2 1.07 would have also become official, based on Gamereplays changelog.


Patch 1.07 Frequently Asked Questions


Q) Who made Patch 1.07 and why was it made?

A) Originally, the Gamereplays Patch Series was designed by MaDDoX, an unofficial affiliate of EA who liased with Aaron, the EA community manager back at the time. This patch was going to be the official one, as promised by EA but due to inadequate funding it never ended up happening. After MaDDoX did most of the 2.x series, Rainmaker directed the last few in that series, followed by myself designing the 3.x series. the Gamereplays Patch Series was created in order to polish the game from the awful state that 1.06 left it in. Today, the original name, Battletest Directors Cut, has been renamed to Patch 1.07, something that should have been done a long time ago by EA, as previously mentioned.


Q) What is Patch 1.07 and what does it do?


This patch has literally thousands of changelog entries, developed since the beginning of 2007 by the competitive, highly skilled scene for BFME2, mostly associated with clanwars.cc. If you wish to read through all of the changelogs, see the older versions links below. There are also hundreds of bug fixes that are apart of 1.06. Dragon Strike, Battlewagons, Blade of Purity, Mirkwood attack rate with ST arrows, just to name a few. The most major stand out changes in this series are Aragorn nerfs, Eagle nerfs, Glorfindel fixes and Battlewagon Men of Dale fixes. This is only to name a few out of thousands.

Q) What no I need to play Patch 1.07?

Patch 1.06 is a per-requisite for 1.07. Get it here

Q) Why should I play Patch 1.07 over 1.06?

Why wouldn't you? Even if for some reason you dislike the Patch, you can deactivate it by one click with our Patch Switcher. See the next section for a few nice features that we have over 1.06

Q) Does Patch 1.07 support Widescreen?

A)Yes it does!!! Widescreen also has new, un-stretched icons that are higher resolution


Q) Does Patch 1.07 support non-English languages?

A) Unfortunately not

Q) How do I fix install issues?

Please make sure before asking for help that you check that the install directory is pointing to the correct place

For x64 systems it will be here

For Windows XP it will be here

If you have a manually specified install directory you will need to point the installer to the correct location

Q) Can I still play custom maps designed for 1.06?

Yes, they should still be compatible with 1.07, if you have any issues alls you need to do is switch back to 1.06 via the switcher to use these maps.

-An approach to balance that includes making everything useful. Enjoy the power of Gandalf in BFME1? It has returned in Patch 1.07. The same principle has been applied to every unit, upgrade & hero in the game. No more ' this unit is better than this ' like there is in 1.06. Gandalf returns with Shield Bubble from BFME1 & stronger existing powers. For players new to 1.07, Shield Bubble can be activated by the U hotkey. Refer to the 3.2 changelog for more information!

Q)How do I change my resolution to a 16:9(wide)?

Easy! Go here C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth™ II Files. Open options.ini with notepad, and edit the resolution to the one you wish. For example my own is 1080P as defined here

A) If you wish to play 1.07, select it in the drop down box below older versions and press apply.

I like all the changes. I remember myself pushing for a goblin cave build time reduction long ago, but it got shut down. It has finally happened though. The only thing I might be just a little worried about is Dwarves beating up on Elves too much now. I don't think the buffs should have too big of an affect on the match up though.

Just an idea for you.

You can get a replay without needed someone else to play against. All you need to do is go to network, host a game, put a bot opponent on, delete your fort, and save the replay. It's not hard and just takes a few minutes. So, whenever you make a new patch, you won't have to wait for someone else to post a game.

Of course, it's not like you need to get that done OMG RIGHT NOW anyway. So just waiting for someone else isn't a problem really.

It had really gotten retarded how impossible it was for Dwarves to basically kill anything in that matchup. The change to BWs and Hero-Ranged damage was definitely neccessary. It'll just be interesting to see how the boost to ATs damage will work, since those were already really potent in the matchup.

EDIT: Oh, and big thanks for putting up the links to all the old patches for us patch noobs Val. Will be nice to watch some of the old school games again. I've been wondering in that regard if it would ever be possible to incorporate all the old versions in the patchswitcher? Or would that be too much work?

Yeah, I agree. I was thinking more about the AT change than the BW change when I said that. The BW buff should help dwarves a lot too though.

It already works with all the old version's, as long as you have their associated .big file in your bfme2 directory. Download an old version and you'll find it is selectable in the switcher.

Axe Throwers beat Loriens in 1v1 now and because they deal slash damage they also rape Mithlond's.

I'm seriously considering renaming Battletest to Patch 1.07( GR Portal included). Have you guys seen what Forshire did for BFME1? Everyone uses 1.05, even the non-competitive scene. Plus, everyone hates him(see bfme1 portal, good read). It's obvious why the way he rages and such all day. All's he did was name the 'mod' 'Patch 1.05' and spammed it across the internet. The most ironic thing is that practically everyone on Gamereplays hates the patch(even though it changes almost nothing, just 'host fix').

Oh the joy it would be to jump on Gameranger and see everyone using BTP

Imo it should be Loriens > Axe Throwers as Elves are predominately an archer faction.

It's more complex than that mate, RTS is never 1v1 scenario. Axe Throwers only win because they are resistant to pierce and have a massive health pool. Their damage is low and sucks vs all other units and heroes. Far too many variables to consider

Besides, in case no one has noticed, Lancers have gotten more buffs than when they actually used to get built.

The main reason people stopped building them was because the banner carrier heal rate was 'bugged' at 10 hp/s. Rain put it down to 2 with no compensation. Since then, the 3.0 series has given them 2 extra speed(now outrun Roh's), resist to pierce, and 7hp/s heal with banners.
