NOTE: Obviously, this article is pointless for those who are already modding RotWK. This is an alternative way of setting up to mod which I find easier... If you're having problems with modding RotWK (which is what I dealt with for months), here's a solution I found: When you look at most beginner tutorials for modding, they tell you to extract INI.big to somewhere like your desktop, then copy the ini folder to your data folder in your main directory. However, after you've done that, (and after you BACK UP THE FILES - you could easily just cut and paste somewhere else) you have to remove both the INI.big from your RotWK directory AND your BFME II directory (make sure you back them up first), because RotWK is an expansion of BFME II. If you haven't done this, you probably got an error about amonsulbuildings.ini and Upgrade_AngmarFaction not being an upgrade, or something along those lines. So you probably feel really stupid (well, I did) that all your problems about not being able to mod were about a second INI.big file. But, now your ready to start successfully modding! However, like one post said, gamedata isn't usually read unless you download that tool. If you were to use this method, you wouldn't need to download anything. Also, some people tend to have problems with downloads... Rob38 (Division Leader) - Saturday January 16, 2010 - 13:15 No need to remove anything when modding. Just use the mod command instead. Check out the tutorials on the site for more information on the mod command setup. |
