This month's interview is with Gothmog the Orc.

Gothmog the Orc has been with T3A for quite a few years,a while ago he announced his retirement.
So as a way to say goodbye I present this interview.

GtO's final contribution to the BFME community was a finished version of his Kings of the West mod.

Radspakr: Why GothmogtheOrc?

GtO: lol, because years ago when I first started playing bfme online the screen name 'Gothmog' was taken and so I had to come up with something else. Failing to come up with anything better, I just appended the 'theOrc' to the end.


Radspakr: You started out with a bunch of mini-mods, what made you release them for the public?

GtO: Well my first few mods centered around Mordor as I really liked playing as them and I felt that they weren't receiving their fair share of mods. So I started out buffing the witch king and giving him a toggle so that Mordor would have a true hero. I decided to release this mod to the public in part because I wanted to help out others who wanted a stronger and more enjoyable mordor faction and also because in my first few mods I was able to do some stuff that hadn't been done before (can't recall what exactly now... it's been awhile ) and I feel strongly that any new accomplishments should be made public so that others can build upon them and use them.

I also wanted to give something back to a young community that had only been around about 6 months but that had already helped me out tremendously in my modding growth.


Radspakr: Was KotW a big mod from it's start, or was it first something to put together all your mini-mods into one?

GtO: The latter actually. It was originally intended to just bring together all my mini-mods and then buff the good side heroes a bit to keep them equal with all the evil side upgrades. But as I started combining my mods and working out a paper balance for the factions I realized that there was a unit here or there that I wanted to update or add for balance, and before I knew it I had a full fledged mod on my hands.


Radspakr: What are you most proud of your time at T3A?

GtO: I'm very, very proud that I was able to see KotW through to completion. So many people, myself included, put a lot of work into the mod and I would have felt horrible had I left the community without releasing all that work. Going along with that, I'm really proud to have been able to work with such outstanding mod teams and community members. My personal accomplishments wouldn't have happened without the help of the community, so I really cannot say too much praise for the community.


Radspakr:So what are your plans now that you are retiring?

GtO: Well I am a Junior at college so real life dominate the scene. I am double majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics with a minor in Political Science and plan to go on to graduate school for Computer Science. Beyond that, who knows for sure what will happen or where life will take me.

In the here and now I keep myself pretty busy with school and work. And when I'm not working I like to play Age of Empires II, Star Trek Armada II, and Call of Duty 4. Occasionally I'll pull out bfme and enjoy a game or two, but my system doesn't really support it well enough to play it too often (hence the old games).


Radspakr:What was the worst part of modding for you?

GtO: well as with any programming, the bugs, errors, and seemingly impossible problems that occasionally come up. Granted I got into this field (and stuck around) because I love problem solving and the like, but when the game engine or current code system prohibits something, it can be frustrating.


Radspakr:
When working do you listen to music if so what kind of music do you listen to?

GtO: Well my taste has changed a bit with time, but often I would listen to U2 or Coldplay during the long afternoons or evenings of work. Recently I've gotten hooked on Moby's music. And of course I would listen to the LotR soundtrack a fair amount.


Radspakr:Is there anything you wish you could have done within your time here at T3A that you couldn't do?

GtO: I really wish I had had the time to join some other projects and contribute to other mods within the community. I would have liked to have contributed more to RA in particular, but time simply didn't allow for it.


Radspakr: Who would you like to thank the most concerning KotW, excluding Tolkien and PJ?

GtO: There are a lot of people I could name (and have elsewhere), but if I stick to just one name then I'm going to go with Lauri, who helped out with KotW for the longest period of time and contributed the most work towards the mod other than myself. Lol, it's really hard to keep it to just one name, but if I don't then I'll end up rattling off 30+ names of site admins, mods, community leaders, fellow team members and testers and more.


Radspakr:Any comments and shout outs you would like to make?

GtO: I guess I would just like to comment on how awesome this community is and has been. I'm a bit surprised that it has lasted as long as it has; 6 years is a long time I feel for a game to have a strong modding community. And going along with that I want to wish the best for the community on going.

And I'll give a shout out to the fine folks from RA who have released the Dwarf Holds, congrats!
