Projectile Effect Settings - Basic Setup

NOTE: This method can be used for all projectile objects (weapons and planes) that disappear during part of the animation.

Arrow Effects (or projectile weapons in general) have their own set of challenges. Let's start with the basic setup. First, open one of EA's models that contains a fire arrow plane object (FIREAROWTIP) or some other plane effect object. Now, if you don't move the FIREAROWTIP object or change it's name, then you do not need to bind the object to a bone. For EA's plane objects and projectile weapons in general, it is already set up and will work correctly with the animations. Don't ask me why, I don't know, but it's one less step you have to worry about. :) But if you do create a new projectile plane object (FORGEDARROWTIP for example), than follow the steps below:

1. Have the plane in the correct position where you want it to be relative to the model (look on how EA positions their FORGED_BLADE and FIREAROWTIP objects for inspiration).

2. Click on the Select and Link button in Renx.

3. Select the projectile plane object. Holding the left mouse button, you should see a dotted line appear when you move the mouse. Take that dotted line and drag it to the bone or weapon you wish to connect the plane to. In most cases, that would mean connecting it to the actual arrow object or its bone like ARROW or FIREAROWTIP.

NOTE: Only do the above three steps if you create a new plane object. You don't need to do the above steps if you are using one of EA's plane objects and have not moved it from its original position. Finally, you can't use the traditional method of making a WWskin and binding it. If you do it that way, you get this error:

As you can see, the projectile plane effect just floats there while the weapon has disappeared. The same problem will occur if you make a new projectile weapon too. So use the select and Link button whenever you are working with projectile objects.

Thanks to robnkarla for teaching me about the Select and Link button. Saved me a lot of time and frustration.

No, I tired the method used by EA and it doesn't turn out right at all. I find my method to work the best.
