This tutorial will teach you how to create the shine effect seen in some of more recent models. As seen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa5n-pvEWsU This effect is called Environment mapping and is a little difficult to explain. But in essence it takes a grey scale image and uses it as a shine that moves over the model according to camera angle giving the shine effect. This is the same effect as used in BFME's water to give the highlights. What you'll need. 3ds 7 or RenX Photoshop or similar program. W3d Viewer to test it out.
