Using the Final Big Editor

Final Big Editor is used to extract the gamedata.ini from the .big files.

See previous pages for locations/ details/caveats of the .big files to edit

Instead of using the hex editor to directly change the .big file the Final Big Editor will be used to access and extract the gamedata.ini file which will then be changed by a text editor.

Once the appropriate. .big file is accessed by the Final Big Editor, locate the gamedata.ini file which should appear in the list as:
\data\ini\gamedata.ini

There are a couple of ways of editing this. I am going to show you one way which lessens possible errors that can otherwise occur.

1 --Using the Final Big Editor, extract the gamedata.ini file to your desktop or another handy location.
2-- Create another folder and rename it to "data" (no quotes)
3--Inside of the data folder create a folder and rename it to "ini" (no quotes)
4--Inside of the ini folder put your gamedata.ini file
5-- You should now have directory arrangement:
data\ini\gamedata.ini.
6--To help with organization place that whole business inside of yet another folder
--For example if you are editing gamedata.ini from BFME I patch 1.06 name that folder "BFME1_106" (no quotes)
--Hence you should have folder/directory setup as follows:
BFME1_106\data\ini\gamedata.ini
