SETTING UP THE MAP TO WORK IN WORLDBUILDER

New Map
Select ‘New Map’ and enter the desired information. Although the border is not seen in game, it is still very useful whilst making the map, and 30 feet is recommended. Always have an initial height as well so that you can put any rivers or lakes in.

Setting up the Player Lists and Teams
These setting make the map work properly in game. Open up ‘Player List’ (CTRL+ALT+P) and ‘Add Skirmish Players’ and press OK. If your using a mod with Worldbuilder with added factions, use the ‘New Player’ to add these new factions and name then in the same way as the original factions (e.g. SkirmishMirkwood).

Next go to ‘Edit Teams’ and ‘Add New Team’ for PlyrCivilian and name it Player_X_Inherit, where X is the Player Number and add all the Players names. Note, this is required for a BFME 1 map, but not for BFME II (unless it's a fortress map I think).

Map Settings
I also prefer to get the Map Setting bit done at the beginning (well I did at time of writing :P). Here you enter the map name, which is what is displayed in game, as well as the Time of Day and the map description. The map description should not be too long, and it is also a useful place to credit yourself as the map maker as maps are often distributed around the web. To add a new line, press CTRL+ENTER, so you can add the map stats ala official maps (note, anything not on the first line won't appear on the loading screen).

Bases
Bases are BFME I only, BFME II only uses waypoints.

Now we place the starting places. The two most popular choices are Camp and Castles, although you can also use the 3 plot Outposts. You'll notice the Camps and Castles are suffixed by a direction, this is the direction the base entrance points. You name these starting bases in the form “BASE_FLAG_X” and give it to team “PlyrCivilian/Player_X_Inherit” where X is the player number. I also like to give my points exact co-ordinates so that the bases are evenly placed.

Now add any Economy Plots, which you name “ECON_FLAG_X” where each plot has a different value of X, and owned by Team PlyrCivilian. If you add any Outposts/Expansion Flags or other bases that cannot be owned at the beginning, you name them “BASE_FLAG_X” and also give them to PlyrCivilian.

Then add neutral buildings (BFME II) and creeps (all games).

When everything's added (screenshot doesn't include creeps for some reason):

Now you can add the Starting Waypoints (do this for all BFME games). Place them over the centre of the Starting Bases and name them “Player_X_Start” with X the same as the Player that owns the base. The Starting Waypoints are what you see on the Skirmish menu where you select your starting position.

It's a castle for BFME 1. The smaller one is a camp, the even smaller one is an outpost/expansion.

The direction refers to where the gate is.

the large black circles with the directions - what do they do? How about the smaller black circles with the red font and the 3 meshed black circles?

{AE}Manveru - Thursday September 3, 2009 - 6:32

@militaryman: That's part of WB. It only shows some tiles in an effort to cut down on the resource usage. If you want to enable the full map even when showing many tiles, go to View -> Show All of 3D Map (Or press Ctrl+A).
